Leonardo da Vinci filled notebooks with drawings of birds, water, and the human body - because for him, drawing was how he studied the world. This class brings that same spirit to young artists, and makes it fun! Over six hands-on sessions, your child learns to really look - training their eyes and hands to work together so what they actually see ends up on the page, instead of relying on shapes from memory. Through movement-based drawing games, "no-peeking" contour challenges, and playful shape-and-shadow exercises, children build real drawing confidence. The kind that carries over into every project they make from here on out. Leave with a whole stack of new drawings and a genuinely different, sharper way of seeing the world around them.

Kyle Jablonski is a visual artist working across drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and social practice. He holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Hawai'i and a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he double-majored in Biology and Zoology with a minor in African Studies. Kyle's path has also taken him through Miami and Portland, Oregon, along with time in South Africa's Limpopo Province, where he trained as a field guide. That time in the bushveld left a lasting mark on his work, which remains deeply informed by conservation and the relationship between land, wildlife, and human presence - and by how our understanding of an environment shapes the way we use and ultimately conserve it. Kyle has taught studio art at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Milwaukee Area Technical College, and Mount Mary University.

Before Instagram, before photography, before printing presses could churn out color images by machine - artists like Hokusai were carving The Great Wave into blocks of wood, by hand, one layer at a time. This class puts that same craft into your teen's hands. Over six sessions, students learn to carve their own designs into wood, ink them, and pull multiple prints from a single block - turning one image into an edition they can actually hold. It's part sculpture, part drawing, part chemistry of ink and pressure, and it rewards patience. Students leave with a finished set of prints and real technical skill in a centuries-old medium that's still very much alive today.
