Ingwersen Studio and Gallery

Ingwersen Studio and Gallery is a cherished cultural landmark located just outside Sister Bay, Wisconsin. Set on a historic farm surrounded by picturesque gardens and rustic buildings, the gallery showcases the work of the late James J. Ingwersen, a nationally renowned portrait artist known for his classical realism in oils and pastels.

Ingwersen's artistic legacy includes over 850 portraits and still lifes, featuring notable figures such as U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens and former Wisconsin Governor John W. Reynolds. His contributions have significantly influenced the Door County art scene since he and his wife moved to the area in the 1970s.

In a generous act to preserve and promote the arts, Ingwersen donated his 40-acre estate, including his home, studio, gallery buildings, and over 600 original works to the Peninsula School of Art before his passing in March 2025. This gift ensures that his life's work will continue to inspire future generations.

The Ingwersen Studio and Gallery will be open to the public during Summer 2026, from June 10 through August 29. Visitors are welcome on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

An opening ceremony will be held on June 17, featuring remarks and a guided tour at 1:00 PM.
